Question: How do I admit myself to Maitland Private?
Answer: See your doctor. He or she will complete a pre-admission form. You can fax or post these forms to the hospital, deliver them in person, or telephone us. You will be advised if you need to attend a pre-admission clinic.
Question: What should I bring with me to Maitland Private?
Answer: For an overnight visit in hospital you should bring pyjamas and day wear (e.g. a track suit), toiletries, your current medications, X-rays and your health fund details.
Question: When should I fast before an operation?
Answer: To confirm this you should phone the hospital the evening before your operation between 4pm and 5pm and we will inform you of your fasting time.
Question: How long will my stay be in hospital?
Answer: This is different for every person and situation. Your doctor will notify you about your discharge procedure.
Question: Should I bring my regular medications with me to Hospital?
Answer: Yes. It is important for patients to bring all their regular medications with them when they come to hospital.
Question: What are the visiting hours at Maitland Private?
Answer: The visiting hours here are from 10am - 1pm, and 3pm - 8pm. All patients have rest time from 1pm - 3pm, so we request no visitors at that time. New mothers and babes need time to get to know each other. Here at Maitland Private Hospital their visiting times are 3pm - 5pm and 7pm - 8pm.
Question: How soon after my operation will I be able to drive?
Answer: It is important that patients do not drive a motor vehicle for a minimum of 24 hours after their operation because they may still be affected by anesthetic drugs. As a consequence your insurance will not cover you in this case.
Question: Will I be able to get a doctor's certificate?
Answer: If you want or need a doctor's certificate it will be supplied by your doctor when you are discharged.
Question: Do I have to shave before my I go into surgery?
Answer: Shaving is not necessary. All preparations will occur after admission.
Question: Should I shower before I come in to the hospital?
Answer: Yes. Patients should shower before their operation but remember not to use talcum powder.
Question: Do I need to remove acrylic nails for my operation?
Answer: Acrylic nails are fine, but all nail polish should be removed.
Question: Can I bring my mobile phone with me to hospital?
Answer: No, there is no need for a mobile phone when staying in Maitland Private as there is a telephone in every room. Mobile phones can interfere with sensitive medical equipment. Bringing valuables is not recommended.
Question: Can I smoke in hospital?
Answer: No, smoking is not allowed in hospitals. However, arrangements can be made to accommodate smoking needs in designated outdoor areas.
Question: Are family members able to stay also?
Answer: Routinely, family can not stay with someone in hospital. However, consideration is given for unusual circumstances.
